More than 4,400 participants from 73 countries, nearly 3,000 scientific papers, including as many as 13 from Alma Mater Europaea University.
These days, the largest IFAC World Congress in its 69-year history is taking place in Busan, South Korea – and Alma Mater is raising important questions there about the future of a long-lived society.
The 23rd IFAC World Congress (International Federation of Automatic Control), which began on Sunday, August 23, and will run until August 28, 2026, is one of the world’s central meeting points for research in automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, control systems, smart cities, and other advanced technologies.
This makes the success of Alma Mater’s researchers all the more significant. Thirteen papers by doctoral students and professors of the Social Gerontology doctoral program at Alma Mater Europaea University were accepted into the congress program.
The papers were presented in Busan by the head of the doctoral program, Prof. Dr. David Bogataj, and Dr. Suzanna Mežnarec Novosel.
When social gerontology meets artificial intelligence and smart cities
Alma Mater’s research directly addresses one of the key questions of the coming decades: how can technology help create environments in which we will live longer, healthier, more independently, and more inclusively?
The papers are presented in four thematic sections linking healthy ageing and social inclusion with digital technologies, mobility and care throughout the life course, urban planning and digital infrastructure, and the development of smart cities and social infrastructure.
The presence of 13 Alma Mater research papers among nearly 3,000 papers from around the world shows that research on ageing today is far from being limited solely to issues of elderly care. It is increasingly connected with artificial intelligence, digitalization, mobility, urban planning, and technologies that will shape the quality of life of future generations.
And it is precisely at this intersection of technology, longevity, and the human being that Alma Mater is also present in Busan.
