Alma Mater at the center of the international archival community

Alma Mater at the center of the international archival community

20. 10. 2025

This year as well, the Chair of Archival Studies at Alma Mater Europaea University, together with the International Institute for Archival Science Trieste/Maribor (IIAS) and in cooperation with the Historical Archives of the European Union in Florence, is organizing the International Archival Days and the International Autumn Archival School 2025.

This year's 35th International Archival Days conference, to be held in person in Ljubljana (Dunajska 145) from 10 to 15 November, will be dedicated to two current topics in contemporary archival science:
  • Popularization of archival science

  • Archiving classical and digital documents in theory and practice

Renowned experts from more than twenty countries will participate in the conference, discussing the challenges and opportunities of the archival profession in the digital age – from artificial intelligence and digitization to data protection and the accessibility of archival materials.

The opening of the event will be on Tuesday, 11 November 2025, with welcome addresses by the head of archival studies programs at Alma Mater and director of IIAS Dr. Peter Pavel Klasinc, the rector of Alma Mater Europaea University Dr. Ludvik Toplak and the director of the IIAS archival school Grazie Tato, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia and the Historical Archives of the European Union.

International Autumn Archival School 2025

As part of the event, the 19th International Autumn Archival School will also take place, offering an exceptional opportunity for young archivists, researchers, and students to gain up-to-date knowledge and experience in archival practice and digital data management.

The school's program includes lectures and workshops with distinguished lecturers, such as:

  • Karen Jamison Trivette (USA) – on the role of artificial intelligence in archival science,

  • Dieter Schlenker (Germany) – on proactive user services,

  • Charles Farrugia (Malta) – on the popularization of archival theory through social media,

  • Marina Paliienko (Ukraine) – on public engagement in the strategic management of archives.

The school bridges theory and practice and promotes international cooperation between archival institutions and the academic community.
