Alma Mater students ready to work with older adults

1. 10. 2026

How can knowledge, movement, and intergenerational cooperation contribute to a higher quality of life for older adults?

Under the mentorship of Lecturer Tatjana Horvat, our students are preparing to implement the project Active and Healthy Ageing in Social Care Institutions, through which they will put their knowledge into practice and direct it toward supporting the health, independence, and well-being of older adults.

The aim of the program is to help older adults maintain physical, cognitive, and social health, thereby contributing to greater independence and a better quality of daily life. Special attention will also be given to preventing falls and reducing the risk of chronic and neurodegenerative diseases.

From knowledge to concrete activities

The program is based on three interconnected areas: adapted physical activity, balanced nutrition, and activities to strengthen memory, cognitive abilities, and social connections.

Alma Mater students will play an important role in the implementation of the project, as they are preparing under professional mentorship to work with older adults in social care institutions. The project will enable them to connect the knowledge they have acquired with practical experience and apply it where it can directly contribute to an individual's quality of life.

At the same time, the project brings together different aspects of healthy ageing and emphasizes that quality of life in later years is not related only to physical health. Mental activity, social inclusion, a sense of independence, and maintaining contact with others are also important.

The project Active and Healthy Ageing in Social Care Institutions is co-financed by the Ministry of Health and is part of the efforts of the Good Appetite Slovenia program to encourage more physical activity and healthier eating.

Through the project, Alma Mater students will not only enhance their professional competencies, but through their knowledge and participation they will also actively contribute to healthier, more independent, and higher-quality ageing.
