Dance art is ephemeral, but its impact endures

2. 7. 2026

Dance leaves behind no material monuments, but unforgettable moments, knowledge, and inspiration that are passed down from generation to generation.

It is precisely about this unique nature of dance art that Prof. Dr. Svebor Sečak, Dean of the Alma Mater Europaea Dance Academy, reflects in an interview for the Parada plesa portal.

In the conversation, he presents his rich international career, reflects on the development of ballet art, and emphasizes the importance of quality higher education. According to him, a contemporary dancer needs more than just top-level technique. A successful career is also based on an understanding of art, pedagogy, research, and international cooperation. He touches on the challenges faced by young dance artists, as well as the importance of perseverance, discipline, and lifelong learning.

He also places special emphasis on the international ballet competition Mia Čorak Slavenska , of which he is the artistic director. The competition enables young dancers to present their knowledge before a distinguished international jury, gain valuable experience, and establish important professional contacts.

Alma Mater Europaea Dance Academy is the only independent higher education institution in Slovenia dedicated to education in the field of dance arts. It offers students accredited undergraduate and master's study programs that connect artistic creation, theory, pedagogy, and research work, and prepare them for successful careers as dancers, choreographers, educators, and other professionals in the field of dance.
