Dean of the ISH Faculty, Dr. Lenart Škof, will present his new book, Filosofia del respiro (Castelvecchi, 2025), the Italian translation of his work Breath of Proximity (Springer, 2015), on Friday, January 16, at 6 pm in Trieste.
The conversation with the author will be led by Dr. Pier Francesco Corvino, the translator of the book into Italian and a collaborator of IFRŠ ZRS Koper. The event will take place at the Ubik bookstore in the Tergesteo passage on the Stock Exchange Square (Piazza della Borsa 15).
The presentation and interview, also intended for the general public, will take place as part of the initiative Leggi un libro, conosci un autore sloveno (Read a book, meet a Slovenian author). In the book, Dr. Škof develops an original concept of a philosophy of breath, which understands breath not merely as a biological act but as the core of a concrete ethics. In dialogue with the Vedas and Western philosophy—from Heidegger to Irigaray—he introduces the notion of the 'mesocosm', an intermediate sphere between the individual and the community, where breath shapes ethics, politics, hospitality, and nonviolence and opens up the possibility of a more just, plural, and peaceful future.
