Professionally enhanced Cybersecurity module

18. 11. 2025

The Slovenian Armed Forces, as part of the 11th generation of the General Staff Military Education and Training, has introduced an updated and professionally enhanced Cybersecurity module that strengthens the defense system's resilience to modern cyber threats.

The program is prepared and delivered in cooperation with Alma Mater Europaea, which provides expert instructors and a certificate of acquired competencies.

Eight thematic sections of the Cybersecurity module

The module content is divided into eight thematic sections covering the key elements of contemporary activity in cyberspace: from fundamental concepts, defensive and offensive operations, legal frameworks, and digital forensics, to future technological trends and multi-domain operations.

Module as part of the accredited General Staff Military Education and Training program (3 ECTS)

The Cybersecurity module, together with the Artificial Intelligence module, is one of two modules in the General Staff Military Education and Training program that also award ECTS credits. The module carries 3 ECTS, which confirms its academic rigor and formally recognized status. Upon successful completion, participants receive a certificate from Alma Mater Europaea.

The content component of the module is based on a combination of lectures, case studies, practical exercises, and the preparation of a written paper, which forms the core of the knowledge assessment.

Alignment with national and international commitments (EU, NATA)

The training is part of the mandatory General Staff Military Education and Training curriculum and directly supports the national commitments of the Republic of Slovenia within the EU and NATA. Lt. Col. Mihael Plevnik delivers the module as the course lead and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Matej Mertik of Alma Mater Europaea, along with others, ensures comprehensive coverage of the entire field of cybersecurity, encompassing professional, academic, and practical aspects.

The revamped Cybersecurity module represents a significant step toward further professionalizing Slovenian Armed Forces personnel and enhancing national cyber resilience in a dynamic and demanding security environment.
