Last Friday, the annual production of the students of Alma Mater Europaea – Academy of Dance took place at the Španski borci Cultural Center, confirming with a rich and diverse program the high level of the study process at the institution, which is the only one in Slovenia to offer officially recognized Bologna education in the field of dance.
Tonight we are connected by art that does not need words, but only body, breath, and heart. Dance is not just expression, it is thinking, feeling, and dialogue. The Academy of Dance is a place of learning and growth, where talent is combined with perseverance.
"I thank all the students and lecturers for the dedication with which you co-created this year's production," addressed the audience the director of Alma Mater Europaea – Academy of Dance, Associate Professor Dr. Barbara Toplak Perovič, who also presented special praises and recognitions at the end to the most successful students and lecturers of the current year.
The gala evening titled "I believe only in a god who can dance", which is based on the famous quote by philosopher Nietzsche, offered a quality presentation of dance skills acquired throughout the academic year, and at the same time provided insight into the creative and pedagogical methods developed by the students and lecturers of the Academy of Dance. On stage, 16 students performed, supported by 13 mentors from various fields of dance.
The dance pieces included elements of contemporary dance, ballet, jazz, and urban dance styles, and the entire program was complemented by a musical guest, accordionist Rihard Zadravec – Riki.
The dean of the Academy of Dance, Prof. Dr. Svebor Sečak, also addressed those present, highlighting the importance of professional dance education in Slovenia.
"Through study programs, we enable students to become competent artists, choreographers, and educators with a clear vision and responsibility towards their field. Today's production confirms that this vision is achievable and alive," emphasizes Prof. Sečak.
Alma Mater Europaea – Academy of Dance is not only an educational institution but also a reference point for the development of dance art and pedagogy in the broader region.
This year's production is yet another proof that Alma Mater Europaea – Academy of Dance follows its vision of connecting artistic education with practice, research, and professional development. The performances of the students impressed both the professional and general public and confirmed the high level of knowledge, creativity, and dedication that students bring to the Slovenian and wider European cultural space.
