About the microcredential
The microcredential Systemic Regulation and Functional Integration in Physiotherapy is a three-day advanced professional training course designed to develop structured clinical reasoning and a holistic understanding of pain, posture, movement, and functional disorders.
It is based on the insight that a clinical assessment limited solely to the site of the symptom does not always explain the factors that cause, maintain, or intensify the problem. Participants will therefore become familiar with a system-oriented approach that considers the body as an interconnected functional whole and takes into account the interrelationships between different body systems in clinical decision-making.
The focus is on HMA – Holistic Manual Approach, a structured clinical decision-making model that combines specific and systemic history-taking, observation, functional testing, and the assessment of biomechanical, neurological, visceral, and psychosocial influences. The aim is not to find one universal explanation for the symptom, but to formulate a verifiable clinical hypothesis, set priorities, and thoughtfully plan the therapeutic process.
The training combines theoretical content, demonstrations, practical work, and the discussion of clinical cases, with a particular emphasis on transferring the acquired knowledge into physiotherapy practice.
Who is the microcredential intended for?
The microcredential is intended for:
- physiotherapy students enrolled in at least the 2nd year of the undergraduate Physiotherapy study programme;
- graduate physiotherapists who wish to upgrade their clinical assessment and treatment planning;
- physiotherapists from clinical, sports, and private practice settings who encounter complex, recurring, or multifactorial patient problems.
It is especially useful for anyone who wants to move beyond an exclusively local or symptomatic approach and better understand the connections between the various factors affecting a patient’s functional condition.
What will you gain?
After successfully completing the microcredential, you will be able to:
- carry out specific and systemic history-taking in a structured way;
- select appropriate observation, functional testing, and provocation procedures;
- analyse functional and postural patterns;
- connect the findings from the history and clinical examination into a meaningful whole;
- distinguish between a symptom, adaptation, compensation, and a possible primary factor of the problem;
- identify possible links between biomechanical, neurological, visceral, and psychosocial influences;
- formulate and verify a clinical hypothesis and set treatment priorities;
- prepare an individualised therapeutic plan based on clinical reasoning.
How does the training take place?
The programme takes place over three thematically connected days.
Day 1 – Introduction and patient assessment
You will become familiar with the fundamental principles of system-oriented clinical reasoning and HMA methods. The focus will be on history-taking, observation, provocation tests, mobility testing, and connecting the findings into an initial clinical hypothesis.
Day 2 – Postural patterns and adaptations
You will address postural patterns, compensations, and the distinction between primary and secondary dysfunctions. Through practical examples, you will explore the connections between different body systems and their impact on posture, movement, and symptoms.
Day 3 – Clinical decision-making and therapeutic plan
The final part is dedicated to integrating the acquired knowledge into a comprehensive therapeutic process – from establishing a clinical hypothesis and therapeutic goals to selecting priorities and creating an individualised treatment plan.
Microcredential and knowledge assessment
To obtain the microcredential worth 3 ECTS, active participation in the programme and successful completion of the assessment are required.
The final grade is descriptive (pass/fail) and is based on:
- active participation in the training – 20%;
- the treatment or analysis of a clinical case – 30%;
- a practical demonstration of clinical assessment – 50%.
